Delayed flights can be annoying, but a Pennsylvania woman could not be happier after making a detour from a flight to end up on cloud nine after her top-prize lottery win.
Donna Osborne, a Lancaster County resident, had just finished radiation for her breast cancer treatment when she decided to take a trip to Florida with her daughter, a news release from the Pennsylvania Lottery said.
“I was at the airport with my daughter. We were on our way to see family in Florida when the flight got delayed,” Osborne told lottery officials. “Well, it was delayed so many times, I decided to go home.”
Little did Osborne know that her decision to stay in Pennsylvania would make her $5 million richer.
Osborne left her daughter at the airport and made a pit stop at the Speedway on 3180 Oregon Pike in Leola where she purchased the “MONOPOLY Own It All” scratch-off ticket. She sat in her car in the parking lot to scratch off the ticket. She quickly realized that this spontaneous purchase just struck gold.
“I could not believe my eyes!” Osbourne said. “I went back into the store and said, ‘Can you please check this? Is it right or wrong?’ Well, the clerk said, ‘It’s right!’”
Still in shock the 75-year-old great-grandmother called her daughter to tell her the news.
“She didn’t believe me,” Osborne said.
Pennsylvania great-grandmother has a lot to celebrate after her $5 million win
There is a saying that, “if you do good, good will come to you” and that’s what has happened for Osborne.
She told lottery officals that for decades she has been providing transportation for the Amish. Now the millionaire is reaping all her benefits.
Osborne said the win came at an exceptionally good time. She won the $5 million around her birthday and she just finished radiation treatment for breast cancer.
“We wish Donna the best of birthdays as we celebrate her for winning this big Scratch-Off prize,” Secretary of Revenue at the Pennsylvania Lottery, Pat Browne, said in the release. “Donna told us that she’s been playing the Lottery for a long time, and it’s thanks to players like her that the PA Lottery is able to not only create millionaires but also help seniors live a good life.”
Woman has plans for her lottery win
Although Osborne does not have immediate plans for her lottery win, she does plan to move to an area with colder winters.
“I don’t know what I’d do with myself, I have to keep moving,” she said. “I think I’ll invest some of the prize, sure, but then go to Alaska!”
What are the odds of winning MONOPOLY Own It All?
The overall chances of winning a prize are 1 in 3.93, the Pennsylvania Lottery said.
